Rushcliffe Befriends:
Combating Loneliness and Isolation
Welcome to Rushcliffe Befriends, a community-led initiative designed to combat loneliness and isolation across the Rushcliffe district. We understand that feeling socially disconnected can profoundly impact individuals' well-being, and our mission is to create meaningful connections within our community.
What We Offer
At Rushcliffe Befriends, we provide two primary services aimed at fostering relationships and enhancing social engagement:
1 / One-on-One Befriending
Our dedicated volunteers are matched with individuals seeking companionship. This personalised approach allows for tailored interactions, where befrienders and their matched companions can share experiences, engage in conversations, and build lasting friendships. Whether it's a weekly phone call or a regular meet-up, our one-on-one befriending creates a supportive and caring environment.
2 / Group Activities
We organise various group activities and events designed to bring people together. From creative workshops and social gatherings to outdoor excursions and game nights, these activities offer opportunities to meet new people, share interests, and develop a sense of belonging. Our group settings encourage interaction and camaraderie, making it easier for individuals to forge connections in a relaxed atmosphere.

BUTTERFLY SERVICE

The Butterfly Service is part of the End-of-Life Care Together Services that are
provided across mid-Nottinghamshire.
End of life care is often associated with medical needs but non-clinical care plays an
important role in achieving the optimum quality of life for people facing terminal
illness.
The Butterfly Service compliments existing services and provides practical and
emotional support to patients and their families in their last year of life. This is
achieved by offering companionship to reduce social isolation, a safe space in the
form of friendship groups, help with transport to and from hospital appointments, and any other help and support patients and families may need.
Facing the end of life can be overwhelming but the Butterfly Service exists to provide help and information so that patients and their families feel supported and can spend meaningful time together in the time they have left.

BEST YEARS
Our Best Years Service is for anyone over the age of 65, living in Newark and Sherwood.
The initiative was established in 2024 with the ethos that everyone should be able to
enjoy the ‘best years’ of their life, and have access to the right types of help, when
and where they need it.
We currently run eight hubs across Newark and Sherwood which provide warm and
welcoming spaces for friendship groups to come together over a warm drink and
snack. They also host many different activities – gentle exercise sessions, games
and quizzes, cookery classes, live music and guest speakers – there’s always
something new to try!
Members of the Best Years Service can also access extra support – from benefits
advice, to help using a digital device, to support with health. A problem shared is a problem halved!
